Google Android is now the most popular mobile device platform, but with millions of devices and millions of users, Android has become an attractive target for attacks from cyber-criminals.
A new study has shown that Malware on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets is up 273% in the first half of 2011, compared with the same period in 2010.
Here are AVG’s Top Tips for keep your mobile safe:
1.Always protect phones with passwords and locks so that if the phone is lost or stolen sensitive data remains secure.
2.Ensure that all mobile devices have a remote wiping capability, like AVG Mobilation. Wiping data off a lost or stolen phone is a last resort but can save you much hassle.
3.Take care when following links. Accidentally clicking on malicious links from untrusted sources can infect smartphones and leave information stored on the device vulnerable.
4.Only download trusted applications for your device. This is especially relevant to Android users as the Android Marketplace has less stringent quality control than its Apple counterpart and apps are more susceptible to being infected.
5.Get protection for your smartphone with an antivirus app. This will help ensure that you are warned about any malicious links or apps that try and harm your device.
