If your phone rings out of the blue with a call from someone telling you there’s a fault with your computer, hang up! This is simply a low-tech scam that’s been going on for some time.
The caller may tell you they are from Microsoft or some other big tech company and will go on to say that your computer has reported a problem to them such as a virus. They will then go on to offer to fix it for you right away…for a price and then ask you to download a piece of software so they can access your machine to do the repair.
If you receive a call like this, simply hang up. The scammers don’t know anything about your computer, they have simply plucked your name from the phone book.
