The Era of mobile shopping is upon us and savvy Australian shoppers are making the most of the ability to shop when and where ever they like.

The eBay new Era of Mobile report has revealed that as a result of being able to shop using mobile devices, many Australians have been inspired to shop in some very unusual places and situations;

  • One in three (32 per cent) Aussies report that they were inspired to shop while watching a movie
  • One in five were inspired on the toilet – this mobile shopping habit is favoured by men more than women.
  • During a meeting (17 per cent)
  • At a birthday party (14 per cent)
  • In the shower (13 per cent – who has a water proof mobile?)

Buying on the go has also been matched with the ability to sell on the move thanks to the eBay mobile app that was first launched 5 years ago.

  • 52 per cent of people surveyed admit to selling goods in order to fund a must have purchase
  • Around half of young Australian smartphone owners surveyed who shop online (52 per cent) would sell an item in order to buy something else they really wanted
  • This rises to 61 per cent among those who have sold an item online in the past year
    37% of Aussies surveyed will sell last season’s wardrobe online
  • Other items sacrificed include household furniture (22 per cent), mobile phones or laptops (22 per cent)
  • Surprisingly, 8% are willing to part with their car or family heirlooms
These findings are based on a survey of 1000 respondents aged 18-44 by Galaxy research
