Is your broadband up to speed? Perhaps the question should be is Australia’s broadband up to speed?
In last year’s Akamai State of the Internet report, Australia’s average connection speed was just 4.8megabits per second which puts us in 45th position when it comes to average internet speeds.
Meanwhile in the UK the latest tests with fibre optic technology have resulted in record breaking speeds of 1.4 terabits per second – that’s fast enough to download 44 high definition movies in just one second.
Back to your home internet speeds. If you do feel they are slower than normal here are a few things to check out:
- http://www.speedtest.net/ – This can give you a good indication of the action upload and download speeds you are getting
- Call your Internet service provider and check the plan you are on along with any options to increase speeds
- Service your computer with an application like iolo system mechanic – this may also help.
