With approval from the civil aviation safety authority Qantas and Virgin no longer require passengers on their flights to switch off their phones, tablets and other small electronic devices while flying…but it’s worth noting that their are still some restrictions.
Firstly while you may not have to turn your phone off, but you can’t make or receive calls or text messages while flying, you’ll need to put your device in flight mode.
With larger devices such as notebook computers you can use these throughout the flight but will need to pack them away during takeoff and landing.
