Criminals love a good scam. You’ve probably seen a few in your email inbox, but watch out for them on Twitter too.
Like many, you may use Twitter to keep up with news, follow celebrities and engage in discussion with other users on the topic of the moment, however researchers at Trend Micro have found that the platform is also being exploited by cyber-criminals to carry out tech support scams
These scams use a fake twitter account that mirror legitimate businesses….but it goes deeper than just a fake account.
The fake Twitter account will also feature a phone number, giving anyone who calls the impression they are dealing with help desk support who will then ask them to share credit card information.
The best way to confirm the validity of a Twitter account is to check the company’s website directly, rather than through the twitter account.
