External hard drives are a great way to expand your computer’s storage capabilities, are easy to use and quite inexpensive…but what do you do when one suddenly stops working.
Your first thought may be that you’ve suddenly lost every file on the drive…but that may not necessarily be the case. It may simply be that the external casing around the drive has suffered a fault with it’s power supply or the connection to the computer.
One way to find out is to simply open up the case, remove the drive and insert it into a new case. If you’re confident with computer parts, have a computer professional do it for you. See the YouTube video below for an example of someone who has swapped the hard drive case to try and recover data.
