Quite often I talk about online threats to your computer and privacy and what you can do to protect yourself from them but sometimes it’s simply out of your hands.
Trend Micro reports that in the case of a new security issue called the “Heartbleed vulnerability” while the threat is very serious it’s not a problem with your computer or devices but with the technology used to make millions of web sites secure.
Over the past week the Heartbleed vulnerability may have allowed sensitive information to be harvested from some online banking and shopping sites, many of which have been quick to either fix the issue internally or reassure users that they were not affected by the bug.
Trend Micro also points out that mobile device users are not immune to the effects of Heartbleed with servers that host mobile apps being affected by the bug.
