A Microsoft survey in late 2013 revealed that Australians want to embrace new ways of working…but their workplaces are holding them back.
The idea behind teleworking is that with technology today, many people could get their work done, without always have to go to work – the idea being that work is something you do, not necessarily somewhere you go.
In the microsoft survey 70% of people said the technology at work wasn’t up to scratch and the workplace culture didn’t embrace flexibility in working out of the office. Also 2 in 5 people said they thought working away from the office was only something that senior employees could do.
One of the main ideas that surfaced in the survey is that workplaces don’t always offer an atmosphere for creativity and ideas with almost a quarter of Australians saying they came up with creative and innovative ideas before bed and some even in the shower.
I spoke with Steven Miller, Microsoft Office Division Lead about Teleworking and how it’s done at Microsoft and how it can effect productivity. Listen below. (note this interview was recorded in late 2013)
