You’ve just received an email that seems to be from PayPal asking you to update missing information from your account. Look again! It’s this type of email that should immediately raise red flags as a scam, but how do you spot it?
Firstly look who the email is from, specifically the email address. In the case of the email I received it’s from services@paypal-update.com. Right away should you should know that’s not the address of the PayPal website which is paypal.com or paypal.com.au.
Secondly, this email is asking you to click on a link to submit personal information. This is another dead giveaway that it’s simply from a cyber criminal attempting to harvest your personal information.
Finally, that link to “Update your information”. Don’t click on it, but will take you to a very obscure web address that is far from being the official PalPal website, but it looks just like the real thing. The main difference here is when you enter in your login details and hit submit, those details will be sent to the cybercriminals who will use them to use your account.
