There are now more of us using it, more-so on mobile devices and it\u2019s definitely getting busier. Cisco&#8217;s 7th Visual Networking Index forcasts that by 2017, global Internet traffic will be 12 times greater than in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Looking for ward to 2017 specifically for Australia;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Internet traffic will grow 2.3-fold from 2012 to 2017, a compound annual growth rate of 18%.<\/li>\n<li>Peak Internet traffic will grow 2.9-fold from 2012 to 2017, a compound annual growth rate of 24%.<\/li>\n<li>Internet traffic will reach 650 Petabytes per month in 2017, up from 282 Petabytes per month in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Internet traffic will be 21 Petabytes per day in 2017, up from 10 Petabytes per day in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Internet traffic in 2017 will be equivalent to 2 billion DVDs per year, 162 million DVDs per month, or 222,487 DVDs per hour.<\/li>\n<li>In 2017, the gigabyte equivalent of all movies ever made will cross the Internet every 9 hours.<\/li>\n<li>Australian Internet traffic in 2017 will be equivalent to 85x the volume of the entire Australian Internet in 2005.<\/li>\n<li>Internet traffic will reach 26 Gigabytes per capita in 2017, up from 12 Gigabytes per capita in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Average Internet traffic will reach 2 Tbps in 2017, the equivalent of 1,650,000 people streaming Internet HD video simultaneously.<\/li>\n<li>Busy hour Internet traffic will reach 7 Tbps in 2017, the equivalent of 5,550,000 people streaming Internet HD video simultaneously.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cisco.com\/web\/solutions\/sp\/vni\/vni_forecast_highlights\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cisco website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I spoke with Dr. Robert Pepper from Cisco last week about the forecast in Internet Traffic and what was behind the growth. \u00a0Listen below.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdaily.com.au\/b2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Cisco-Interview-with-Dr-Robert-Pepper-on-Internet-Traffic-Growth.mp3\">Cisco Interview with Dr Robert Pepper on Internet Traffic Growth<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Internet is changing.
