Today I spoke with David Hall from Symantec Australia about the findings of the Norton report, including the impact of mobile devices and social networks.

Symantec offers these tips for \u00a0Staying Safe Online<\/b><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Defend Your Data:<\/b>\u00a0Install a comprehensive security suite for all devices and regularly update your security patches for all devices<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be Aware of Device Policies for Work:\u00a0<\/b>Understand the rules and policies around using your personal devices at work and vice versa<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Be Cautious in the Cloud:<\/b>\u00a0While cloud solutions make it easier to save and share files, be careful who can access them and what information is shared<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Share Personal Information on a Secure Connection:<\/b>\u00a0Take care with sharing personal information through the Internet, unless it is a secure connection. Always check for \u201chttps\u201d in the web address<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0After You Connect, Double Check:<\/b>\u00a0Check your credit card and bank statements regularly for any suspicious transactions and report them to your service provider, your financial institution and the police<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Have a Strong Password:<\/b>\u00a0Use\u00a0 strong passwords for all devices and change them regularly<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Protect Your Social Network:<\/b>\u00a0Take a moment to check your privacy settings on all your social media accounts and where possible install two factor authentication<\/p>\n
