The U.S trade war with China<\/a> is causing some problems for Chinese smartphone maker Huawei<\/a>…but don’t panic and throw out your phone!
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had an email from Shuan last week asking if it was still safe for him to use a Huawei Mate 20 phone that he recently bought as he was worried that it wouldn\u2019t be supported with security and android software updates.
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well the good news is that Huawei has assured users of its current devices in the market that they won\u2019t be impacted. Here’s the full statement from
Jeremy Mitchell, Director of Corporate Affairs for Huawei Australia: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to assure Huawei customers in Australia that the US actions involving Google will not impact consumers with a Huawei smartphone or tablet or those that are planning to buy a Huawei device in the near future from an Australian retail outlet.<\/em>
<\/p>

Consumers with\u00a0Huawei\u00a0devices will still receive security updates and be able to use Google apps.\u00a0Huawei\u00a0will continue to provide after-sales services to all existing\u00a0Huawei\u00a0and Honor smartphone and tablet products, covering those that have been sold and that are still in stock globally.<\/em><\/p>

Australian consumers will be able to continue using Google services like Google Play and Gmail on their\u00a0Huawei\u00a0phones as they normally would.<\/em><\/p>

Google Android updates will continue to be provided for\u00a0Huawei\u00a0EMUI and Google apps will not be affected.<\/em><\/p>

Huawei\u00a0has made substantial contributions to the development and growth of Android around the world. As one of Android\u2019s key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry. We will continue to prioritize the development and use of the Android ecosystem.<\/em><\/p>

Huawei\u00a0will continue to build a safe and sustainable software ecosystem, in order to provide the best experience for all users globally.\u201d<\/em><\/p>
