Australians love smartphones…but at the same time are looking for more opportunities to disconnect.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>That\u2019s one of the findings of a study from HMD Global<\/a> that also revealed that Australians spend 16.45 hours per week on average looking at their screen – which is the equivalent of watching the first two seasons of Game of Thrones back-to-back. <\/span>
\n<\/span>With mobile usage rising 88 percent over the past decade so to has the need to take a break and the study showed that 28 percent of Australians take a digital detox often.<\/p>\n

One way to help with that digital detox is to use a feature phone<\/a>.\u00a0 A feature phone simply has less of the features you expect to find on many smartphones, so you’re less likely to spend as much time on them.<\/p>\n

Other finding from the study included;<\/span><\/p>\n

Privacy\/Security:<\/strong>
\n57.2% (over half) of Aussies worry about getting scammed through their phone
\n76.3% of Aussies feel that knowing their phone is secure is important to them<\/p>\n

Digital Wellbeing:<\/strong>
\nAussies spend an average of:<\/p>\n

163 minutes on average touching their phone each day
\n141 minutes looking at their screen each day
\n135 minutes on your phone (including games, calls, exercises, texts)
\n96 minutes browsing social media
\n144 minutes using their smartphone in any way
\n88.2% of Aussies believe their phone usage has increased by some % in the past decade
\nOn average Aussies have increased their phone usage by 77% in the past decade
\n27.5% (1 in 4) of Aussies often take a digital detox
\nOn average, Aussies are spending 110 more minutes on their phone than holding their child\u2019s hand<\/p>\n

Sustainability\/Durability:<\/strong>
\n76.5% of Aussies want to keep their smartphone for longer
\n56% of Aussies wish they didn\u2019t have to upgrade their phone so often
\n52.2% of Aussies make an effort to buy products that help the environment
\n47.1% of Aussies won\u2019t update their phone because they don\u2019t think it does anything<\/p>\n

Cost:<\/strong>
\n81.4% of Aussies think that smartphones are expensive
\nAussies spend an average of:<\/p>\n

163 minutes on average touching their phone each day
\n141 minutes looking at their screen each day
\n135 minutes on your phone (including games, calls, exercises, texts)
\n96 minutes browsing social media each day<\/p>\n
