The data shows that the traditional Friday night at the pub is losing the battle to the video gaming universe, specifically among Gen Z.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">The study, which surveyed over 1,500 Australians, uncovered a striking statistic: <b>61% of Australian men aged 18-24 prefer connecting with friends through online gaming rather than going to a pub or bar.<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">This isn&#8217;t just a niche trend for hardcore gamers. The preference for a &#8220;night in&#8221; is widespread among young adults:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\"><b>49%<\/b> of all respondents aged 18-24 favour a gaming night over a pub night.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\"><b>34%<\/b> of the broader 18-45 demographic feel the same way.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">Why the Shift?<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Why are young Aussies trading bar stools for gaming chairs? It turns out that the &#8220;antisocial gamer&#8221; stereotype is dead; this shift is entirely about a better social experience and economic reality.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">Respondents cited three key drivers for choosing gaming over going out:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"12\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\"><b>Affordability (54%):<\/b> With the cost of living rising, spending a fortune on drinks is becoming less appealing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\"><b>Relaxation (47%):<\/b> Gaming offers a way to unwind that a crowded venue often can&#8217;t match.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\"><b>Convenience (42%):<\/b> No coordinating transport, no arguing over venues, and no dress codes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"13\">Gaming is Australia\u2019s New &#8220;Third Space&#8221;<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Sociologists often talk about the &#8220;Third Space&#8221;\u2014a place that isn&#8217;t work and isn&#8217;t home, where community happens. For decades, this was the pub, the church, or the sporting club. Today, the server lobby is taking over.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">Logitech G found that <b>online gaming is now the second most popular &#8220;Third Space&#8221; in Australia.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"16\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\"><b>1st Place:<\/b> Cafes and Restaurants (32%)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\"><b>2nd Place:<\/b> Online Gaming (18%)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,2,0\"><b>3rd Place:<\/b> Pubs and Bars (16%)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\">For Gen Z men specifically, gaming dominates, with <b>38%<\/b> describing it as their primary hub for social connection.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\">Far from isolating people, the study suggests that gaming is actually <i>increasing<\/i> social interaction. Frequent gamers spend an average of <b>3.8 hours more per week<\/b> socializing with friends compared to non-gamers. It is also a lifeline for long-distance relationships, with <b>73%<\/b> of gamers relying on online play to stay close with friends who live far away.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-path-to-node=\"20\">\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20,0\">\u201cAlthough in-person catch-ups will forever have a role to play, video games are providing an essential platform for digital socialising in Australia and beyond.
