Microsoft\u2019s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-dynmedia-1.microsoft.com\/is\/content\/microsoftcorp\/microsoft\/bade\/documents\/products-and-services\/en-us\/digitalsafety\/1_Australia_Online_Safety_Infographic_2026.pdf\">Global Online Safety Survey<\/a> is out, and it shows sixty-two percent of us hit a digital speed bump this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now, if you\u2019re a Boomer or Gen X, you\u2019re likely losing sleep over scams\u2014but for the teens, it\u2019s all about tackling cyberbullying. The good news? Our kids are tougher than we think. In fact, eighty percent of Aussie teens are now speaking up or reporting trouble the moment it happens.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Australian highlights from the survey;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>62% of Australians experienced at least one significant\u00a0<span class=\"il\">online<\/span>\u00a0risk in the past year.<\/b><\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>Top\u00a0<span class=\"il\">online<\/span>\u00a0risks in Australia as reported by respondents:<\/b><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">Hate speech:\u00a0<b>31%<\/b><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><span class=\"il\">Online<\/span>\u00a0frauds and scams:\u00a0<b>30%<\/b><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">Cyberbullying:\u00a0<b>30%<\/b><\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b><span class=\"il\">Online<\/span>\u00a0fraud and scams are the #1\u00a0<span class=\"il\">online<\/span>\u00a0worry for most age groups<\/b>, including\u00a0<b>50% of Gen X and Boomers<\/b>, while\u00a0<b>44% of teens say cyberbullying is their top concern.<\/b><\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>32% of Australians now use generative AI weekly or more<\/b>, up from\u00a0<b>11% in 2023<\/b>, with highest adoption among\u00a0<b>Millennials and Teens<\/b>.<\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>92% of Australians express some level of worry about AI\u2019s impact<\/b>, with top concerns including:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">Sexual\/<span class=\"il\">online<\/span>\u00a0abuse (<b>78%<\/b>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">Scams (<b>77%<\/b>)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\">AI hallucinations (<b>71%<\/b>)<\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>Only 23% of Australians feel confident they can reliably distinguish real images from AI?generated images<\/b>, with most performing worse than chance in authenticity tests.<\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>80% of teens who experienced an\u00a0<span class=\"il\">online<\/span>\u00a0risk talked to someone or reported it<\/b>, and\u00a0<b>74% took defensive actions<\/b>\u00a0such as blocking or closing accounts.<\/div>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div role=\"presentation\"><b>96% of teens say they would advise a friend to report and seek support if affected by deepfake intimate imagery.<\/b><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can read more of the Australian results from the survey <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-dynmedia-1.microsoft.com\/is\/content\/microsoftcorp\/microsoft\/bade\/documents\/products-and-services\/en-us\/digitalsafety\/1_Australia_Online_Safety_Infographic_2026.pdf\">HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It turns out, life online is getting a bit &#8220;busy&#8221; for us Aussies.
