Apple’s tight reign on their Appstore has been a great barrier to protect users from malicious downloads, however a threat still remains in the form of clone apps.
A clone or spoof App is an App that mimics the functionality ,design and even the name of another popular app…tricking users into parting with a few dollars to down load it.
There’s no security threat in this but their are still multiple victims. One is the users that downloads the clone app and doesn’t end up getting what they expected. The 2nd is the developer of the original app that’s been ripped off as the dodgy clone with bad reviews could also hurt their reputation and future sales.
