Your mobile device now has a powerful new shield against text message scams, with the federal government’s mandatory SMS Sender ID Register coming into effect on July 1.
Under the new rules, any business using a brand name instead of a mobile number must register their identity.
If a text is sent by an unregistered company, your phone will label the message as “Unverified” so should be treated with caution.
This crucial change makes it much harder for scammers to hijack trusted names like AusPost or myGov to steal your money. We’ve seen quite a bit of this activity reported in the media latest so here’s hoping this solution de-rails scammer efforts.
